Battersea Team 4 Principles (tom, rohan & paul)

After todays tute rohan, paul and i have come up with key principles which are to be present in our domas design, they consist of:

1. A central living area with seperate, independent pods.
2. The idea of water catchment
3. Building is to be risen on stilts
4. Framed view from living area
5. Cross ventilation
6. Minimal use of space - idea of every element having 2 functions
7. Pitched/steep roof
8. Use of eves
9. Solar power
10. Use of local materials
11. Verandas used as external rooms

The hotel we spoke about is the Gagudju Crocodile Hotel in Jabiru (East of Kakadu)

Appropriate metaphor or gimmicky tourist attraction?

Here's a few images of the Kakadu area and a couple of links for further info such as history, landscape and weather pattens and conditions.

This should give us a better idea of the proposed site for Domus.

Climate Zones of Australia

The 4 Fundamental Principles of Tropical Architecture

1.) Promotion of cooling breezes
2.) Ventilation by convection
3.) Reducing radiation of heat
4.) The sheltering of walls and openings
An example of how the hot-humid weather conditions have been addressed and resolved, and yet the design can still be quite aesthetically pleasing.

Research into ventilation

Here are a few examples of how Troppo Architects have dealt with extracting the heat and humidity by using high pitch roofs with a vent at the apex to allow the lower area to remain cool.

Climatic Zone

For our Domus, we have selected to go with a hot-humid climatic zone.

These are the main principles of our design in terms of temperature and ventilation.
